Physical Description: Like many of his siblings Roan is quite tall at 6 feet tall. He has a lithe frame but being more or less forced to train in combat alongside his brothers in childhood has left plenty of muscle. His most striking features are his piecing almond eyes and his hawk like nose. His appearance gives the impression that he always knows more than he is sharing. He rarely participates in raids and thus wears less heavy clothing or armour, dressing in shamans robes or other such comforts.

Combat Experience: Roan was trained alongside his siblings by his adoptive warrior mother. He wasn't and still isn't any good in a fight but he was made to participate all the same for the sake of family bonding.

Education: Roan was trained well by his shaman father, he is incredibly skilled at healing and good at many forms of crafting. Perhaps a little too good for the comfort of Lutra society as a whole. Being good at mending and knitting is considered a flaw for a man in lutra. Even so no one complains about who made the blanket when the snow comes in.

Personality:

Roan had always been soft. He didn't like conflict, didn't like fighting and hardly ever shouted. His birth family had already been filled with worry about his bringing shame to their bloodline. Even then he preferred to go off to somewhere quiet than roughhouse with the other boys.
Now that he is a competent shaman he has learned how to be respected even without fitting the lutra mold. With his cunning and his skills he holds the secrets and lives of many Lutrans in the palm of his hand.  Despite his experience as a healer and the many ears lent his way he can still be very awkward around other men, especially attractive men.
This quirk is always chalked up to being just another of his shamanic ways, because the alternative explanation would leave them with one less shaman.

History:

Born to proud exemplary Lutra warriors Roan was a black sheep in his family. He didn't show any fighting spirit, he ran away from any sign of conflict and he kept making flower crowns. In a society that not only expects but demands men grow up to excellent warriors these were troubling signs. 
Luckily their concerns were remedied when they consulted a shaman. Atrus saw the potential in Roan to follow the lesser glory of the shamanic path. He was happily handed over to Atrus at the age of 7. Atrus adopted Roan into the family and treated him as a true apprentice. While Roan was reluctant toward his new family he sucked up any knowledge the old shaman shared with him like a sponge. He soon became not just an excellent healer but an artisan. His desire to do literally anything but fight or train meant he spent a lot of time sneaking away to hide with the servants. This meant that not only did he learn the more suitable crafts that his father taught him like wood working but also work usually left to the women, like sewing.
He could mend clothes, spin wool, knit, carve wood, sculpt pots and best of all, cook. Roan discovered pretty quickly that it was best if he actually hid some of his knowledge lest he raise more eyebrows than necessary. He would often do his knitting alone at night by candlelight, causing blankets to mysteriously appear inside the hut.
At first he was afraid of taking on the sort of responsibility of becoming a shaman but he was lucky to have a good mentor. Even now he sometimes worries about his place in Lutra. Being a Shaman is often a thankless job, but seeing patients recover is worth the sneers.
He is always within reach of those in need. 
Roan has few true friends, he is closest with his adoptive brother Espen Varangr who kindly turns an eye to his softer traits. He also has a pet Raven who he feeds scraps.
